From 13–17 July 2010 the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cape Town will be hosting an international conference with the title Diversity in Mathematics.
The aim of this meeting is to emphasize the beauty of mathematics and the diversity of research in mathematics and in its applications. It will be of interest to a broad mathematical sciences audience, with participants from South Africa, Africa and elsewhere, and will encourage young researchers to become involved in mathematics.

There will be plenary talks, invited talks and panel discussions. The plenary talks will be chosen to represent a number of active research areas including both traditional and modern areas of interest and will be pitched at a general mathematical audience. Mathematicians and theoretical physicists who have already indicated that they plan to attend this meeting and present a plenary talk include:

Fees
Registration fees include participation in all scientific sessions, tea/coffee, lunch for five days, dinner for three days, and a conference dinner on Friday 16 July. Students at South African Universities may apply for a waiver. Note the registration fees do not include accommodation.

Due to the Soccer World Cup accommodation will be at a premium and participants should secure accommodation for their attendance of the conference as soon as possible. Accommodation in Muizenberg is limited even under normal circumstances and delegates may have to look for accommodation in neighbouring areas.
Some fairly basic accommodation is available at AIMS. A limited number of rooms with en suites are available but the majority of rooms share communal bathrooms. More upmarket self-catering rooms are available at Whale Watchers, which is within easy walking distance of AIMS. Contact Clair Timlin at +27 21 782 1313 to enquire at Whale Watchers. Accommodation in the AIMS building will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Delegates or students staying at AIMS will have to vacate their rooms at 10:00 on Saturday. A room will be made available where luggage can be safely stored until the end of the conference at 14:00. Contact Liesl Jones to book or pay for accommodation. The rates shown are per person per night and includes bed & breakfast. Students at South African universities may apply for a waiver.

For delegates who will be staying at AIMS or at Whale Watchers transport to and from the airport can be arranged (at no extra cost). A shuttle service will leave Domestic Arrivals on 12 July at 09:00, 13:00, 18:00, and 23:00. However this shuttle service will only be operational if delegates inform Liesl Jones by email which shuttle they wish to use before 1 July. Please include your full name in the email. AIMS will not check flight details or refund any transport expenses. See the directions if you are making your own way to AIMS.
At the end of the conference a shuttle service will be available to take delegates back to the airport (leaving AIMS at 14:00 on Saturday). Delegates are requested to make flight arrangements in line with these departure times if they wish to make use of the shuttle service. This return shuttle service will be booked at AIMS during the conference.
