The next course starts in September 2010 and applications close 30 April 2010.
The course is open to students of African nationality. A limited number of places (fee paying) are available for students from other parts of the world. Applicants should hold, or anticipate completing by the start date of the AIMS course, a 4-year university degree in mathematics, or any science or engineering subject with a significant mathematics component. An applicant's record should demonstrate strong aptitude in mathematics. We advise students with insufficient knowledge of English to follow an English course in their home country before coming to AIMS. This can be followed up with English conversation and Scientific writing classes at AIMS. The Course section provides further information on the courses and lecturers for the current academic year.
One of the goals of AIMS is to recruit a student body representative of Africa's diversity. Each applicant's dossier will be evaluated in the light of the prior educational opportunities available to her or him. The application process is highly competitive and potential applicants must be able to demonstrate both a high degree of motivation, and the preparation and ability required to complete the course successfully. Admission decisions will be made separately from bursary decisions, and without regard to whether or not an applicant has applied for financial aid. An application for financial aid may be downloaded below.
Students are strongly advised to apply by 28 February 2010 to qualify for the first round selection which takes place during March.Applicants who are accepted on to the programme will be notified by the end of March 2010. Student applications received during March and April will be considered for places which may still be vacant. The final deadline for applications is 30 April 2010.
There will be no course fee for African students. Full bursaries covering tuition and accommodation costs are available and require a separate application. AIMS stongly encourages applicants to secure support for their airfare from their home country (or at least a partial contribution). Applicants should, where possible, try to obtain funding for travel to AIMS and subsistence costs from their family, their government or from charitable foundations.
